CYMS Cross Country Starts Monday, 9/15

The cross country season is officially upon us. This season we welcome new head coach, Rick Putnam as he joins us to lead our Cougars to a fantastic season.

Practice starts this Monday, September 15th from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm. Detailed practice & meet schedules will be emailed to registered families separately from this newsletter.

If your student would like to participate it isn't too late to register. Registration fees of $50/athlete cover a team t-shirt, transportation, and meet entry fees. Partial and full scholarships are available for families facing financial hardship.

Picture Day

Picture day is this Thursday, September 18th. (Listed incorrectly in last week's newsletter) .

Families are encouraged to order pictures through the LifeTouch online portal. If you would rather purchase using cash or check, picture packets are available in the front office.

All students need their picture taken, even if not purchasing picture packages, as the photos are used for accurate student safety profiles and student ID cards.

Operation School Bell

The Assistance League of Eugene supports a program of student assistance called Operation School Bell. This program is made possible through the fundraising activities of the Assistance League of Eugene in cooperation with local Fred Meyer stores. 

Shopping for school clothes at two local Fred Meyer stores has been scheduled in October and November for eligible students whose families are experiencing financial hardship. 

If you would like your child(ren) to be included in Operation School Bell this fall, please complete this form. Since the number of available shopping spots is limited, it is possible that funding may not be available for all eligible students. Selected students will be notified of when they may shop.

CYMS Open House & Activity Fair

Tuesday, September 23

Join Cal Young staff for our annual Open House and second annual Activity Fair.

Activity Fair, 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
  • Enjoy a complimentary hotdog dinner and check out this year's Activity Fair with tables featuring Cal Young clubs, affinity groups, athletics, and community partners. Kona Ice & Toms Coffee Cart will also be on site and available for purchase.

Open House, 6:15 pm - 7:40 pm
  • Meet the teachers! This is your opportunity to experience a mini day in the life of your middle school student. Parents follow their students schedule on a shortened format and meet each teacher for a brief introduction and presentation. Come learn about curriculum and what to expect from your student's middle school experience.

There will be an interpreter on site for this event. Please contact the front office or comment on this post to let us know if you need an interpreter for this event.

Spirit Gear

This year we have a variety of spirit gear available to purchase either by order form or online. All orders are due by Friday, September 27th.
Parents are encouraged to order online when possible, however, paper order forms are available in the front office. Please make any checks payable to Cal Young Middle School and include your student's name in the memo section.

3rd Annual NATIVES Program Back To School Powwow

Join the 4J NATIVES Program for a day of community building and fun! Experience drumming, dancing, food & craft vendors, a 50/50 raffle and a stuffed animal for every child 10 and under!

All are welcome to attend.
